Jobs and the economy. We need to make it easier for Adams County workers to find good jobs and for small businesses to thrive and expand in today’s economy. In the legislature, I worked with the Governor, community, and business leaders to transform the Front Range Airport into a spaceport, making Colorado and Adams County a future hub for the commercial spaceflight industry. That’s also why I supported a law that encourages companies seeking Colorado contracts to hire Colorado workers. As your county commissioner, I will seek more ways to help our local businesses create more good-paying jobs. Transportation. In Adams County and across our state, our roads are in need of repair. Congestion and worn streets cost us a great deal money and productivity. That's why I voted to put more resources into the backlog of road projects and road maintenance while I served as your state senator. With our booming population, Adams County needs to invest more in road improvements across the county. We also need to look at more transportation alternatives, including more transit options and infrastructure for walking and cycling. Education. Adams County kids deserve a safe and secure future, and that starts with access to a world-class education. This requires our attention at all levels of government. That’s why I worked to restore funding to Adams County schools, and why I supported an effort to ensure that every kid in Colorado can read by the end of 3rd grade. As your county commissioner, I will work with our school districts and our District Attorney's Office to fund and expand diversion programs that keep our kids safe and out of the criminal justice system. As a county, we should invest in early childhood education, instead of waiting for politicians in Denver to make Adams County kids a priority. At the other end of the spectrum, we should help reduce our students' debt burden by funding and expanding the county scholarship program. Our land and water. As former chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I understand the challenges Colorado farmers and ranchers face. As a state senator, I worked to ensure farmers have access to the water they need and that Colorado continues to invest in water conservation projects. To protect our resources, we must also combat climate change. In the legislature, I protected Colorado's new methane rules from attacks by industry. These are the toughest rules in the nation and will greatly reduce emissions of this powerful greenhouse gas in the future. I also voted for the "Clean Air, Clean Jobs Act" to move Colorado away from dirty coal energy toward alternative sources, putting our state ahead of the curve in reducing carbon emissions. As your county commissioner, I will continue to look for ways we can protect our environment and precious resources for future generations. Cracking down on corruption. Adams county families deserve a government that is ethical, open, and honest. That’s why I sponsored and passed a bill this that will fight corruption at all levels of government by strengthening ethics standards for government officials. I also sponsored a bill to require a recording of all executive sessions to prevent any backroom dealing by local officials. We have come a long way, but we can do better in Adams County. As your county commissioner, I will support a policy to require all county lobbyists to register so everyone knows who gets paid to advocate before your local government.
